As an Evermay client, you have the option to work with us on either a discretionary or advisory basis. The option you choose depends upon the level of involvement you desire in the day-to-day management of your portfolio.
Design and Construction
If you prefer a discretionary arrangement, then we assume responsibility for making any and all investment decisions on your behalf, based on the detailed parameters set forth in your investment policy statement (IPS). This document serves as a blueprint for your portfolio’s design, defining your financial goals, time horizon, asset allocation, risk tolerance and any other requirements or limitations. Because the IPS plays such a critical role in directing your investment activity and decisions, we work closely with you in its development to ensure that it accurately reflects your current financial situation and objectives.
In constructing your portfolio, we understand that you may have investments that you prefer not to transfer; perhaps you wish to maintain a portion of your assets with another advisor, or manage certain holdings yourself. We are pleased to collaborate with any other financial professionals with whom you have a relationship, and include those assets in our assessment of your portfolio.
Reporting
While you are free of making day-to-day investment decisions as a discretionary client, you naturally will want to be updated on all portfolio activity and returns on a regular basis. To that end, you will receive trade confirmations and monthly statements from third party custodians, as well as quarterly statements from us detailing your portfolio’s performance, account balances, realized and unrealized gains and losses and income and expenses. In addition, depending on your needs and preferences, we will meet with you on an annual, semi-annual or quarterly basis to discuss your portfolio and address any outstanding issues.
